MONDAY-18th a hot day, an all time record was set in Saint-Malo 40.8°C (105.4°F). Walked to the plage du Bon Secours to cool off in the ice cold water. This beach is the closest to our apartment. It is just a hundred steps or so from the apartment; 350 meters, 382 yards, 1148 feet

Our walking route from the apartment, follow the blue dots from the right (4 Rue de la Coudre) to the left (Porte Saint Pierre). 4 minutes is about right.

Yes, it is us in the water!

TUESDAY-19th Sandy went to the marché early and on the way back she met our friend Madame Yvonne. She is in her 80s and comes to Saint-Malo each year for the months of May through September. She lives in Rennes.

We tried some Sophie training this morning, but were not overly successful.

Still hot in the morning, 29, but this afternoon should be a cool off. We took a late afternoon walk down to the harbor and then out on the mole. We saw Madame Yvonne sitting on a bench in the shade talking with a friend. We said hello, she laughed and we continued on our walk to the mole.

Afternoon walk to the harbor and the mole.

Sandy invited Gwenaëlle and Corentin, from the top floor of the apartment building, to have an aperitif with us Saturday evening. They are children of the owners of the top floor apartment, Nicolas and Nathalie. Gwenaëlle and Corentin are university students working here for their summer jobs.

WEDNESDAY-20th and we did our usual Tuesday shopping today instead. Watched the Tour de France stage today. Went for a walk to the harbor and on the mole. A cruise ship was in the harbor.

THURSDAY-21st we got an early start on our walk to the Rocabey marché. We purchased some pork for Sunday, and some cheese and olives for Saturday evening. Saturday evening Gwenaëlle and Corentin will be coming to our apartment at 18:30 for an aperitif.

On the way home we met our friend Jean-Yves and Fripouille his dog walking along the quay Dougay-Trouin.

Afternoon walk to the harbor. Saw the cormorant and a lot of people. Stopped at the wine shop on the way back.

FRIDAY-22nd and we did some aperitif shopping at the Intermarché Super. This is to prepare for the visit tomorrow of Gwenaëlle and Corentin for an aperitif. Met our friend Eliane while crossing through the parking lot on the way back to the apartment.

Stopped by the boules court in the afternoon, said hello to our friends, Philippe, Guy, and Jean-Yves. Then we went to the harbor.

Stopped at the Carrefour City for some Kronenbourg 1664 beer on the way back to the apartment.

SATURDAY-23rd and we had only one thing to do this morning; pick up our Nespresso coffee package at the post office. Must not run out of coffee.

Gwenaëlle and Corentin were here for an aperitif this evening. Sandy had some great finger food for everyone to nibble on. We had a great time talking with Gwenaëlle and Corentin about all sort of things. It was good French language practice for us and good English practice for them. At the end, there was no food left, just a good indicator of a successful evening.

SUNDAY-24th was a slow day. We took a short walk in the morning and decided it was a bit too warm, so we returned to the apartment. For dinner we had the pork brochettes we bought Thursday at the butcher.

A couple of new license plates we noticed this week; Lithuania and Denmark.

MONDAY-11th Took the bus to the Carrefour Hypermarché at LaMadeline center. We purchased two small table fans. We expect we will need the fans in the next few days as we are suppose to have a heat wave over the weekend. Very few apartments or homes are air conditioned in Saint-Malo.

TUESDAY-12th and Sandy was early to the local marché. She was in line in front of our neighbor from the 5th floor (6th floor in USA counting) of our building, Nathalie. Nathalie was there with her husband Nicolas.

We had our weekly trip to the Intermarché Super. At the store, we bumped into the restauranteur from across the street at the store. We exchanged greetings, but we were unable to determine if he was shopping for himself or for his resto. It is a very small resto, which he runs by himself most of the time. Only for a few weeks at peak season in August will he hire a server to assist.

Bakery we stop at on our return from the Intermarché Super. The bakery is right across from the bus stop where we get our bus for the return home.

WEDNESDAY-13th walked the digue in the morning and really didn’t have any other plans for the day.

THURSDAY-14th on our way to the Rocabey marché we met up with our friend Jean-Yves and his little dog Fripouille. We talked about the heat and Jean-Yves said the dog did not like to walk on the hot asphalt. We walked to the Rocabey marché for some meat for Sunday dinner, ham for sandwiches, and mini-pizzas for lunch.

While at the marche, we met our friend Michel, who along with his wife Marie Dominque, is the proprietor of the Hôtel Quic-en-Groigne in the Intra-Muros. He was buying tapenades and olives from the same vendor that supplies Sandy with olives. We asked him if any of the Netflix people, from last weeks filming, had stayed at his hotel. He responded that they had rented three room but had not used them. He called that “good business.”

Today was the Féte National, the National Holiday celebrating the beginning of the French Revolution. There was a lot of BLUE, WHITE and RED, the colors of the French flag. At 23:00 we went out to watch the fireworks. The fireworks were cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.

FRIDAY-15th Sandy stocked up on some vegetables and fruit from the Intra-Muros marché. Mid-morning we took a walk to the chocolate shop on the Quai Duguay-Trouin and bought some chocolates at the Carre chocolat shop.

In the evening, we went up to the 5th floor (6th floor in USA counting) for aperitifs at the top floor apartment of Nicolas and Nathalie. They live in Versailles and are here this week to “télé travailler.” Their jobs allow them to occasionally work from home, so that is what they are doing this week here at their secondary home in Saint-Malo. They are here with their two children, Gwenaëlle and Corentin, who are both at university, but working in Saint-Malo now for their summer jobs.

SATURDAY-16th and a walk on the digue. As we crossed the Esplanade Saint-Vincent we met Philippe with this dog Gavroche, and Jean-Yves with his dog Fripouille. We talked about the heat for a few minutes and everyone agreed that Sunday and Monday would be stay indoors days.

SUNDAY-17th with temperature at 33°C (91.4°F) Sandy wanted to go to the beach. We went to the Plage de Bon Secours for a dip in the water, but only up to our shoulders. The water temperature is still cold 19°C (66°F).

THAT IS COLD WATER!!!!!
Proof we really did get into the water, no swimming, but wading up to our shoulders.
