Today is Friday March 25 and it is Good Friday. It rained over night but it is around 10 C or 50 F and cloudy this morning. Sandy loves being able to dry her hair with the new hair dryer before leaving the apartment to buy a baguette for breakfast. Much better than going outside with wet hair everyday.

Today was very busy in the city.  It reminds us of  “tourist” season.  It might be due to the Easter holiday or because it is Friday.

After breakfast we shopped at our local Intra-Muros market.  “Our” vegetable / fruit vendor was back from vacation. We purchased a sweet potato, zucchini, navel oranges, pears, mushrooms, carrots, lettuce, and strawberries.  These are the long, thin French “Gariguette” strawberries that are absolutely delicious!!

Then we walked to Saint-Servan to purchase a thick slice of ham to have on Easter.  We also bought two fresh (the other option is smoked) sausages. Phil was 14th in line for the butcher. He stood in line at the butcher counter for over 20 minutes.  The line at this counter is always longer than the other butcher counters. Everything we have purchased from him has always been very tasty.

Sandy looked around at the other interior stalls and purchased black olives.  On our way back to Saint-Malo we stopped at the Condor Ferry office to pick up a brochure with hotel/ferry packages.  We’d like to travel to Guernsey in April for a two night visit.

After lunch the sun was out and the temperature was 12 C or 54 F, low tide was at

14:00 hours or 2 pm.  We put on our “beach/rain” boots and we were off to the beach.  We were able to walk from the swimming pool (piscine) near the islands named Petite Be and Grande Be, almost all the way to Fort National beach. It is just amazing to see all of the rock, all of the islands, and the walled city without any water close to them. It was low tide. It was a lovely day and fun way to walk for over an hour in the waves, on the sand, and over rocks.

On the way back from the beach we some men playing pétanque.  It is a French game played with heavy metal balls (called boules in France, and bocce in Italy).
