Samedi 13 septembre nous nous sommes réveillés et regarda par la fenêtre. Nous étions en plein milieu de deux canaux et il y avait des cygnes et des oies de natation par. Il s’agissait d’une situation exceptionnelle! J’avais lu le petit-déjeuner à l’hôtel était un peu cher 25 euros par personne. C’est beaucoup trop cher pour moi de profiter même. J’ai aussi lu un bon café à travers le canal, c’est là que nous nous sommes dirigés. Nous avons eu la chance encore une fois! Le café avait une belle terrasse à l’extérieur (il était juste un peu froid pour moi et parfait pour Phil) et pour € 6,90 chacune, nous avons apprécié un grand café, croissant, la moitié d’une baguette, beurre, confiture et un verre de jus d’orange. Nous avons été servis par une serveuse très poli qui n’ont pas commencer à parler anglais pour nous dès qu’elle a entendu notre français. Les plats étaient porcelaine, pas de papier et il y avait beaucoup de choses à manger et à boire. Le café était dans une zone appelée “Petite France” où toutes les rues ont été faites de pavés, semblable à Saint-Malo. Nous nous sommes promenés, regardé beaucoup de choses et nous avons pris un bateau sur le canal sur Batorama croisières sur les canaux. C’était une belle journée ensoleillée mais le bateau était climatisé et était entouré de verre. Nous portions des écouteurs pour entendre le dialogue dans une langue que vous désirez. L’hôtel a recommandé un restaurant comme ayant vraie nourriture alsacienne si nous avons réservé une table là pour 19h30 ce soir-là. C’était un endroit très agréable et nous avons apprécié nos repas. Ce fut un merveilleux premier jour à Strasbourg!

Saturday September 13th we woke up and looked out the window.  We were right in the middle of two canals and there were swans and geese swimming by.  This was an amazing location!  I had read where breakfast at our hotel was a rather pricey 25 euros per person.  That is far too expensive for me to even enjoy.  I also read about a nice cafe across the canal, so that’s where we headed.  We lucked out again!  The cafe had a lovely terrace outside (it was just a little cool for me and perfect for Phil) and for 6.90 euros each we enjoyed a large coffee, croissant, half of a baguette, butter, jam, and a glass of orange juice.  We were served by a very polite waitress that didn’t start speaking English to us as soon as she heard our French.   The dishes were china, not paper and there was plenty to eat and drink. The cafe was in an area called “Petite France” where all of the streets were made of cobblestone, similar to St. Malo.  We walked around, looked at many things and took a boat on the canal on Batorama canal cruises.  It was a lovely sunny day but the boat was air conditioned and was enclosed with glass.  We wore earphones to hear the dialogue in any language you desired. The hotel recommended a restaurant as having true Alsatian food so we reserved a table there for 19:30 that evening.  It was a lovely place and we enjoyed our meals.  This was a wonderful first day in Strasbourg!
